The Sarah Siddons Society funds scholarships to outstanding theatre students, enabling them to further their education in fine arts at Northwestern University School of Communication, The Theatre School at DePaul University and Columbia College.  Additional scholarships have included the Dinah Perutz Scholarship, given to a student of dance at Northwestern University; the Lucia Perrigo Meyers Scholarship, given to a member of Waa-Mu at Northwestern University; and the Robert and Ellen Marks/Sarah Siddons Scholarship for the Theatre Conservatory at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.

Antonette Balestreri  (2005 Northwestern recipient)

Michael Mahler, 2003 Northwestern recipient, was accepted to the New York University Graduate Program in Music Theatre Composition.  In June 2005, Mahler opened Northwestern's Summerfest with a revue titled "Nine to Five," a collection of 35 of his songs, half of which were from Waa-Mu shows, 2001-2004. The composer was at the piano for the show.

Joe Schenck (2002 Lucia Perrigo Meyers recipient)

Recent stage credits include the 2005 Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, directed by Dominic Missimi.

Jenny Powers, 2001 Northwestern recipient, made her professional stage debut in the starring role of Serena in Northlight Theatre's production of Everything's Ducky.  During the summer of 2002, Jenny appeared at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre in the role of Martha Jefferson in the musical, 1776, and also played the role of Cinderella in the Children's Theatre.

Performances in 2003 include the role of Alice B. Toklas in Frank Galati and Stephen Flaherty's new musical, A Long Gay Book, and ensemble member, with a solo as the Boca Raton Girl, in Stephen Sondheim's new musical, Bounce, in its world premier engagement at the Goodman Theatre.

Amber Makalous(2000 Lucia Perrigo Meyers recipient, 2001 Dinah Perutz Dance Scholarship recipient)

Recent stage credits include the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre productions of  Pajama Game, West Side Story(Velma), Annie Get Your Gun, Funny GirlNutcracker(Clara), Beauty and the Beast(Salt Shaker, Enchantress), and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum(Panacea, Dance Captain). Other Chicago area credits include Singin' in the Rain(Lady in Green), Kiss me Kate, The Wizard of Oz, and Drury Lane Oakbrook's production of The Music Man(Zaneeta).

 

She is also a teacher for the Cherub program at Northwestern.

Janette Zilioli, 2000 Northwestern  recipient, won the Metropolitan Opera regional finals in November, 2000, and was one of 23 singers chosen to perform in New York in March of 2001. In February, 2001, the soprano also won the Houston Grand Opera semi-final competition  as well as the audience choice award.

Mark Ledbetter, 1999 Northwestern  recipient.
Performances include the roles of Froggy in The Foreigner, Magaldi in Evita, and Jimmy in The Rainmaker, all at the Wagon Wheel Theatre in Warsaw, Indiana. Subsequent stage credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Dan)at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, CT.;  West Side Story (Tony)for the Human Race Theatre Co. at the Victoria Theatre in Dayton, Ohio; Anything Goes(Sir Evelyn Oakleigh) at the Milford Theatre in Milford, PA.; Funny Girl(Ziegfeld Tenor) at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, Texas; You're A Good Man Charlie Brown(Snoppy)at the Milford Theatre with Sunflower Hill Productions; and The Strange Case of Mary Lincoln(Young Robert), produced by Women's Project and Productions.

Recent stage credits include the Transport Group production of Our Town(Sam Craig) at the Connelly Theatre in NYC, Crazy for You (Bobby Child) at the Wagon Wheel Theatre, Miss Saigon at the Papermill Theatre, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular(ensemble member and understudy to Santa), the Transport Group production of Requiem for William at the Connelly Theatre, and the touring company of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Film/TV credits include It Runs in the Family(MGM/Further Films with Kirk and Michael Douglas) and "The Job" (ABC).

Brian McKnight (2000-01 DePaul recipient)
Finishing up his final year at DePaul, Brian portrayed Lloyd Dallas in The Theatre School’s Showcase production of Noises Off!  He was also seen in The Theatre School Showcase production of Sight Unseen and in the New Directors Series production of Ghosts.

Charles Browning (1999-00 DePaul recipient)
In the summer of 2000, Charles was in Second City's summer outreach program Improvising New Voices. He then appeared in the Midwest premier of Tennessee Williams' Not About Nightingales with TimeLine Theatre Company (Jeff Citation-Ensemble), and Chicago Shakespeare Theater's production of King Lear. During the summer of 2001,  Charles appeared in Emerald City Theatre Company’s Captain Virtue. 

Stacy Magerkurth (1999-00 DePaul recipient)
Stacy performed in Spite for Spite at Writers' Theatre Chicago, and in Saved with Oblivion Theatre at the Athenaeum Studio Theatre. Stacy also appeared in Space Rock with the Emerald City Theatre Company at the Apollo Theatre.

Larry Bates (1998-99 DePaul recipient)
Christmas season’00, Larry performed in A Christmas Carol at the Cincinnati Playhouse. Larry can be seen in the recurring role of Petie Samples on Boston Public on FOX. . He also made a guest appearance in an episode of 18 Wheels of Justice on TNN.

Whitney Sneed (1998-99 DePaul recipient)
In 1998, Whitney joined the Encore Players in the remounting of Dearly Departed in Second City’s Skybox Studio Theatre, and performed in TimeLine Theatre Company's production of Gaslight in 1999. Whitney also performed Juliet in Romeo and Juliet at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and has moved to Kansas City to work with a band.  They are working on recording and searching for a label.  Future plans include a possible move to Nashville or LA.

Angel Maclean (1997-98 DePaul recipient)
Angel played Amy in the world premiere of Lovesick at Verner Laboratory Theatre at Oakland University where she also directed a production of House of Yes. She has made a short film, Nicaragua is Just South of TX, and performed in the remounting of Dearly Departed at Second City’s Skybox Studio Theatre. She has performed in readings at the Irish Repertory Company, TimeLine Theatre Company, and About Face Theatre Company. Angel designed lighting and scenery for David and Lisa at Ridgewood High School, and worked on both ABC’s Cupid and CBS’s Early Edition in 1998. She performed in TimeLine Theatre’s production of No End of Blame, and was back at Oakland University to perform in Dutchman at the Varner Studio Theatre, Oakland University. Angel appeared in Ample and Trite at the Michigan Renaissance Festival, worked with The Children’s Theatre of Michigan, and then became an adjunct professor of Acting at Oakland University in September of 1999. Angel went on to work on the children's show Hoogah and Boogah's Haunted House Party, and during the Christmas season, she worked on two other children's shows, The Giving Season and The Christmas Carol at the Meadowbrook Theatre. Angel became a member of Equity when performing the role of Meg in Crimes of the Heart at Meadow Brook Theatre in Michigan, and she also became a member of SAG while doing commercials and industrial films. Angel then performed with Brainstormers, a children's theatre group, which used improvisation to tell stories written by Kindergarten to 6th grade children. Angel taught two classes at Oakland University in the fall of 2000, one of which was movement to music, and she directed subUrbia by Eric Begosian at the college in the winter. Angel stage-managed The Immigrant at the Jewish Ensemble Theatre in Michigan, and as part of the Guest Artist Series at Oakland University, she performed Carol in Oleanna, and then toured the production to Owosso, MI and the U of Michigan. Angel was recently named an adjunct faculty member at Oakland University in Michigan teaching Fundamentals of Acting.

Anne Marie Welty (1996-97 DePaul recipient)
Anne Marie performed in the Midwest premiere of Manuel Puig's Under a Mantle of Stars at JABOA (Just Another Bunch Of Actors) Theatre Company, and was in No End Of Blame with TimeLine Theatre Company. Anne performed in Five Women Wearing the Same Dress at Wing & Groove Theatre.

Timothy Gregory (1996-97 DePaul recipient)
Timothy starred in The Woman in Black at The Theatre Building, and performed in The Comedy of Errors at Shakespeare Repertory Theater (now Chicago Shakespeare Theater). Timothy was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role for his work in Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare Repertory Theatre. Tim hosted the WGN-TV series De-Classified, which was a reality-based series dramatizing real life stories taken from the classified ads. Timothy appeared in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and All’s Well That Ends Well at Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier, and performed in their production of King Lear. Tim was also featured in a March 22, 2001 Wall Street Journal article titled An Actor Blows Into the Windy City – and Stays.

Joseph Harris III (1995-96 DePaul recipient)
Joseph is a police officer with the Cascade County Sheriff's Department in Great Falls, Montana and is planning on moving to Missoula, where he will pursue a Masters in Psychology and eventually a PhD.

Sarah Charipar (1995-96 DePaul recipient)
Sarah appeared in Road to Nirvana and Feverdream Cocktail at Trap Door Theatre, Mizlansky/Zilinsky or Schmucks at Steppenwolf Studio, and Possible Worlds with Airscape Productions at the Chicago Cultural Center Studio Theatre. Sarah appeared on Broadway in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in association with Steppenwolf Theatre Company at The Royale Theatre in 2001.

Leonard Roberts (1994-95 DePaul recipient)
Leonard was cast in the CBS pilot Turks, and appeared as Smiley in the world premier of OyamO's Let Me Live at the Goodman Theatre. Leonard appeared in Merchant of Venice at the Shakespeare Repertory Company, and was featured in the movie love jones. He also had a large role in the NBC mini-series The 60’s, which aired in February 1999 and was later rebroadcast on VH1. Leonard can be seen in a recurring role as a government agent on Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the WB.  Film credits include Joe and Mack, in which Leonard plays boxer Joe Louis.

Juliet Hart (1994-95 DePaul recipient)
Juliet is a founding member and the marketing director for TimeLine Theatre Company here in Chicago.  She was honored in 1998 for five years of employment at DePaul University at the 1998 Service Awards Luncheon. Juliet performed in No End Of Blame, Gaslight, and Tennessee Williams' Not About Nightingales (Jeff Citation, ensemble) with TimeLine Theatre Company. She was  co-producer for the world premiere of Streeterville at TimeLine Theatre Company, and played Nina in The Seagull at TimeLine Theatre in June 2001.   

Jeff Buelterman (1993-94 DePaul recipient)
Jeff performed in Dancer from the Dance at About Face Theatre, and he also appeared in the world premiere of Streeterville with TimeLine Theatre Company in early 2001. .

John Colella (1991-92 DePaul recipient)
In 1998, John filmed The New Adventures of Robin Hood in Lithuania, and in addition, he has become a member of the Leukemia Society of America Team in Training, for which he ran a 26.2 mile marathon in Honolulu in December 1998 to raise funds and awareness for research leading to a cure for leukemia and related cancers. He co-starred on an episode of Touched By An Angel for CBS.

Julie Neary (1989-90 DePaul recipient)
Julie taught two sections of BFA Movement at The Theatre School through the Spring Quarter 1998-1999.  She appeared in Ghetto at Famous Door Theatre Company in 1999 for which she received a Jeff Citation for Actress in a Supporting role. She is also part of a new not-for-profit organization, Running With Scissors.  Their inaugural production, The Man Who Fell In Love with the Moon, performed at the Griffin Theatre in May of 2000. Julie appeared in Cyrano with Rivendell Ensemble at The Viaduct, and she also taught an all day workshop on Movement to Music at the Santa Lucia School here in Chicago as part of a fine arts program that was being introduced in the school.  The project was funded by a grant from the Vincentian Endowment Fund. Julia was nominated for another Joseph Jefferson Award, for New Adaptation of The Man Who Fell in Love With the Moon. Julia performed in Leaving for Winter Sketchbook ONE, a collection of scenes and one act plays performed with Collaboraction at the Viaduct Theater, and  choreographed the Chicago Playworks production of Duke Kahanamoku vs. the Surfnappers for The Theatre School at the Merle Reskin Theatre. Julia performed in The Terrible Girls at About Face Theatre in May,2001.

Jeff Still (1988-89 DePaul recipient)
Jeff performed in the multi-Jeff Award winning Stalag 17, in Serengeti Plane at Center Theater, in Belfry at Organic Theatre, in the American premiere of Two Planks and a Passion at Famous Door Theatre, and again in Serengeti Plane at the Theatre on the Lake. He plays a role in the film Chicago Cab (now for rent under its original title, HELLCAB. Recently, Jeff played Orson Welles in the new play Orson’s Shadow by Austin Pendleton, produced at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company Garage, and he also performed in the world premiere of the one-man show Place of Angels at A Red Orchid Theatre. The show was written by Bob Adams, based on his experiences as a medic during the Vietnam War in 1968.  After Orson's Shadow's sold out run, Jeff went on to continue in his role at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts in June 2000, and at the Westport County Playhouse in Connecticut. Other stage credits include Blissfield at the Victory Gardens Theater, The Khe Sahn Bagman (role of former Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley) at Center Theatre, and Dinah Was at Center Stage, Baltimore, Maryland.

David New (1986-87 DePaul recipient)
David has performed in Merchant of Venice at the Shakespeare Repertory Company; The Odyssey at the Goodman Theatre; Slaughterhouse-Five, The Glass Menagerie, Morning Star, Valparaiso, The Ballad of Little Jo, and The Royal Family at the Steppenwolf Theatre; and performed in Enter the Guardsman at Northlight Theatre.  David was seen on an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger, and he appeared in All my Children and the NBC mini-series A Will Of Their Own. He has performed in Thou Shalt Not on Broadway and has appeared in numerous regional and local theatres.

Jacqueline Williams (1986-87 DePaul recipient)
Jaqueline has performed in Blues for an Alabama Sky, Regina Taylor’s Oo-Bla-Dee, and The Amen Corner, all at the Goodman Theatre. She also appeared with Barbara Eden in Neil Simon’s female version of The Odd Couple at the Apollo Theatre, in Mom's the Word at the Royal George Theatre, and in the Tony Kushner adaptation of The Illusion at Piven Theatre Workshop. She had the recurring role as Leigh Dickson in the CBS drama Turks, which filmed in Chicago, and she appeared in the NBC mini-series A Will of Their Own. Jacqueline received a 1998 Joseph Jefferson Award nomination, Film credits include Hardball with Keanu Reeves.

Kathleen has a national TV commercial running for Hershey's Pot of Gold Candy.

Paul Dillon (1985-86 DePaul recipient)
Paul had a featured role as one of the villains in Austin Powers with Mike Myers, Michel York, Mimi Rogers, and Robert Wagner, and he also has returned to his recurring role as Angelo in The Pretender on NBC. Paul is also a producer of and actor in the movie Chicago Cab (HELLCAB).

Eric Gilliom (1984-85 DePaul recipient)
Eric started dancing with Debbie Allen after starring in several television shows.  He ended up in Europe in her production of Carrie the Musical that went to NYC.  When that production closed, Eric joined the cast of Jerome Robbin's Broadway, and then returned to LA. He then went home to Hawaii on a vacation 9 years ago, and stayed. He started a theatre company, and produced and starred in The Rocky Horror Show, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hamlet, Greater Tuna and more. Next, Eric started a R&B funk band as lead singer, touring with Earl Klugh, and has an album titled Into the Mystic. More recently, Eric played Carnegie Hall and just completed his second album Like Chow Fun which was released late 1999, and he followed it by touring all of 2000.  He appeared in the PBS movie Guiding Light.

Ann Dowd (1980-81 DePaul recipient)
Ann has appeared on Nothing Sacred on ABC, Providence on NBC, and FOX's The X-Files. Ann has also guest starred on CBS’s Family Law and CBS's Judging Amy, among numerous other film and stage credits.

Daniel Le Monnier (1979-80 DePaul recipient)
Among numerous artistic pursuits, Daniel  performed as Benny the Bull, the mascot of the Chicago Bulls, for many years.
